C-207, Fuerza Aerea Argentina, Falklands/Malvinas War, 1982 Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale die cast model wonderfully replicates the A4 Skyhawk, C-207, flown by 1st Lt. Mariano "Cobra" Velasco of the Argentine Air Force when he dropped three 1,000-lb. bombs to sink the HMS Coventry during the Falklands/Malvinas War in 1982. It features outstanding details such as engraved panel lines; a detailed cockpit with an opening bubble canopy; removable stores including a bomb, missiles and fuel tanks; an aerial refueling probe and a tail hook; optional position landing gear with real rubber tires; a display stand and more. Measures 6" long with a 4" wingspan and arrives ready to display. 11-24-2008 Dear Sir, I am very pleased to see that he was one of the most successful Argentinean Skyhawk pilots. But on the 27th May 1982 his run came to an end although he did survive. I am in contact with Valasco on a regular basis, we have a lot in common, he flew his plane on many dangerous missions against us. I am hoping to eventually meet him some day in Argentina and shake his hand, I am really glad he survived, after all it was me who shot him down.
Great model. The following goes through the true story of the pilot and the man who shot him down. Read more about the Falkland Islands War and Neil Wilkinson, the man who shot this airplane down. This is the documentary that is presently being made about Neil Wilkinson. The entire project started with the letter, in green above, that Neil sent to me several years ago about the model. The entire story is yet to be told, but you can read a lot by clicking the link above or about the documentary by clicking on the picture to the left, or the Facebook Page below. |
The A-4 skyhawk comes in several different versions the later versions had the ECM hump. Many countries use the 84 skyhawk as a jet fighter, a light attack bomber, or as an aerobatic aircraft such as the blue angels flight demonstration team

During an "Iron Hand" mission flown from the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) on April 26, 1967, Lt. Commander John B. Nichols, III flies alongside the damaged A-4 Skyhawk of Lt. Commander Michael Estocin.Navy F-4 Phantoms and A-4 Skyhawks attack the Thanh Hoa (Dragon's Jaw) Bridge in North Vietnam, in the vicinity of which more than 100 American pilots were shot down during the war. When I was stationed at naval air station Lemoore, there were several squadrons which had the A-4 skyhawk. One squadron was a training squadron that was being 127. 01 sees planes fly in and out of the base every single day this is great. One evening my friend and I were watching an A-4 coming in for landing. There was something wrong, the plane was coming and too steep and disaster was a probability. The plane hit the ground blending on its belly tanks. There was a huge bright flash of light, then nothing used it was totally dark. The plane came to a dead stop on the runway, and the pilot opened up the cockpit, and just stepped out like nothing happened. It was as though the plane may just a standard landing. The next day when I was at work, I watched the cherry picker carrying the airplane right past our hangar. I was amazed to see that the airplane only had its belly tanks damaged, the rest of the airplane looked just fine. My time at naval air station Lemoore was very interesting. I was unlucky enough to see several airplanes crash, unfortunately, one of the pilots didn't make it. From the Webmaster. |

Look at Adam Coleman's Model Building Home Page This plane is a super accurate replica of Mariano Valasco's A-4 Skyhawk. In 1982 Mariano Valasco, from Argentina, used this plane to sink the HMS Coventry in the Falkland Islands War. A couple days later Neil Wilkinson, from England, aboard the HMS Intrepid, shot this plane down. Years later, Adam Coleman flew to the Falkland Islands to find this plane and copy it exactly. Adam took detailed photos of every part of the crashed airplane and even took paint chip samples to replicate the original colors so that they exactly matched the real airplane. This model building exhibit shows both his model and also the real plane crashed on West Falkland Island. It was a fantastic job all the way around. A-4G Skyhawk From the Webmaster: I was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk and right across the dock from us, in Hawaii, was the HMS Melbourne. I was totally surprised to see the size difference between the two carriers. When I was standing on our hangar deck, if I stood on my tip toes, I could see the flight deck of the Melbourne exactly at my eye level. |

From Hell Hawks! author Bob Dorr, Mission to Berlin takes the reader on a
World War II strategic bombing mission from an airfield in East Anglia, England,
to Berlin and back. Told largely in the veterans’ own words, Mission to Berlin
covers all aspects of a long-range bombing mission including pilots and other
aircrew, ground crew, and escort fighters that accompanied the heavy bombers on
their perilous mission. The B-17 Flying Fortress is a key player in the book. The four-engined
propeller aircraft was smaller than a modern Boeing 737-800 and had a combat
radius of about 800 miles while carrying 6,000 pounds’ worth of ordnance and a
nine-member crew. Robert Dorr also touches on the B-17’s less-heralded
rival, the B-24 Liberator. The squat-looking aircraft, nicknamed “the box, was
faster and heavier than the B-17 and could carry more ordnance, but not fly as
high.
