Aircraft Carrier Models of the USS Forrestal, Book, DVD Videos, Movies, Documentaries, Naval Aviation Art, and Gifts for the USS Forrestall CV59.  This is the ship that Senator John McCain Served on when a missile shot from another aircraft, across the deck, and hit John McCain's A-4 Skyhawk.  There were 134 men lost in this 1967 fire on the Forrestal as 500 pound bombs overheated and blew up taking more and more aircraft into the fire.  This was a terrible day for all the sailors and their families.  The DVD Documentaries on this page show the whole story.  This Fire on the USS Forrestal was a terrible loss.  Also information on John McCain is listed on this page.

the 1967 fire on board the USS Forrestal, which broke out during its service at Yankee Station off the coast of Vietnam. You'll read of (now senator) John McCain's narrow escape from death  and of the crew's struggle as it battled for days to extinguish the fire - a struggle that in the end cost the lives of 134 men

the 5-year imprisonment of John McCain as a POW during the Vietnam War, and the influence his navy admiral forebears - his grandfather commanded an aircraft carrier in World War II, and his father presided over naval forces in the Pacific during the Vietnam War - had on his life. From the Naval Academy through capture and imprisonment, this is an inspiring story of courage.
