The A-10 Warthog (Thunderbolt II)  Military Aircraft Die Cast and Plastic Model airplane kits.

Description of collectable airplane kits. The A-10 Warthog, as it is mostly known, is really the A-10 Thunderbolt II but because of its looks, they called it the Warthog.  It is used for close ground support and anti tank missions.  The A-10 Warthog carries a 30 mm Gatling cannon in its nose and can penetrate any kind of armor.  The A-10 is also heavily covered with portions of Armor Plate to protect vital components of the aircraft and protect the pilot.   During the Gulf War, when Iraqi tank commanders saw the A-10 Warthog in the area, the commanders gave the order to abandon the tank and not to try to out maneuver or fight against the Warthog.  This is because these tanks knew that they didn't have single chance of getting away without being destroyed.  One common story about the A-10's is that it is capable of jettisoning an engine so that heat seeking missiles would follow the engine and not the plane.  This is totally wrong and I have absolutely no idea where this fictitious statement came from.  The warthog uses flares to do this job.  There are many ways to search the web for the A-10 here are some search phrases that can help, model airplanes, A10, A-10, warthog, thunderbolt II, thunderbolt, ground attack .These collectable models come in plastic model airplane kits, wood model airplane kits, diecast and mahogany airplane models. The A-10 is not really a fighter jet, it is actually a close ground support and anti-tank aircraft.  The A in A10 stands for Attack.  Real fighter jets have their numbers starting with F.  The F/A-18 is a multi-role aircraft being a fighter jet, and also capable of operating in the Attack Mode.
These Specs are only for one version of this A-10  Warthog, close ground support aircraft, other versions have different specs.

Historical Information about the A-10 Thunderbolt II, Warthog

Continuing the proud tradition of the "Flying Tiger" P-40s that later formed the 23rd Fighter Group in World War II, this A-10 Thunderbolt II of the 23rd Fighter Squadron dives in on an Iraqi tank during Operation Desert Storm

Providing Close Air Support (CAS), an A-10 Warthog from the 23rd Fighter Group makes a tight, descending turn as it approaches its target in downtown Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom

With the Hindu-Kush Mountains of Afghanistan looming in the background, a squadron of USAF A-10 "Warthogs" taxis for take-off from Bagram AFB on a mission to provide close air support for Army Special Forces searching for the Taliban

Flying their A-10 Thunderbolt IIs in support of U.S. Marines on the ground in Kuwait, Capt. Eric Solomonson and Lt. John Marks of the 76th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing (which traces its lineage to the famous Flying Tigers), destroyed 23 Iraqi tanks on February 25, 1991, one of the last days of Operation Desert Storm.

The A-10 Warthog is a close air support (CAS) plane that some say should never have been built; yet it has proven useful in various conflicts and remains operational.

Fondly known as the Warthog by its pilots and ground crews, A-10s saw widespread combat during the Gulf War where they knocked out an impressive number of Iraqi vehicles.

the "Warthog" take you to all twelve continental U.S. bases operating A-10s and to three more A-10 bases outside the 48 contiguous states. You even get updated squadron information that includes the effect on A-10 units of Base Realignment and Closure 2006.
