North Pole Travel and Global Warming, What it Means to You

The loading is almost done.  Facing us is Anand from Singapore and handing him a box is Bill from the U.S.

After we had the equipment loaded we ate some oranges and cookies then took a nap.   I wasn't just going to sit there when there was a big beautiful world outside for me to explore, so I went outside for a look around.    Another person that was already looking around at Sredney Island was Thomas Trautman.   I met up with him then headed we both headed out for the next island to see the structures on it.   It was real cold outside until we walked down below the hill and onto the oceans surface.  Then, being in the shadow of the island and having the wind to our backs, we were suddenly extremely warm.  One thing that I noticed was that I didn't have enough zippers to unzip.   I was hot and sweating and I had my coat undone, my snowmobile suit unzipped and my gloves off.  It was plum hot there.

As we walked we enjoyed the company of two dogs, one big black dog with white feet and one puppy.  They followed real close but wouldn't let us pet them.  They followed us just to have something exciting to do.    We got closer and closer to the other island when we looked around and started thinking about Polar Bears that are in the area.  We didn't see them, but we knew that they lived all around Sredney island.    At this time Thomas and I looked at each other and said that we better head back.

Walking against the wind was a lot colder, however, because of our equipment it wasn't bad, we just had to zip up a little.   We were working at a moderate level so the energy we were burning made a big difference in our bodies temperature.   As I said before, I am a disabled vet and I hurt myself by laughing too much at Khatanga and then again when we were moving the boxes into the cabin, so I really didn't have too much energy for a long walk like this.  I just can't wait until next year because I've been doing a whole lot better since this trip.
