A Picture of working dogs on Spitsbergen.

Here are two working dog pictures. These dogs are true working dogs. With the weight of the sleds and all of the miles that they have to pull the sleds, they burn up an awful lot of energy. On these trips, sponsored by a man named Pascal, the dogs pull for about ten to fifteen days straight. I am wondering exactly how much of the food on the sleds goes for these hard working dogs. While we were in the hotel lobby, Pascal asked us if we would like to help pick up this dog teams. There was no question about it, and we wanted to go. We drove about ten miles east of Longyearbyen on the Mine 7 road before we came up to the teams. The team leader called Pascal on the cell phone and ended the dog sledding early, by about ten miles. It was very interesting to see how the whole operation worked. The sledders had a real good time, but after about fifteen days on the ice, they were tired.
