Here's the third photo of the fire on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier in 1967.Here's the third photo. Of course, being taken from below it can't begin to reveal the mess the flight deck was in. However, it does show how ratty we looked because once the paint was burned off the salt air took over. By the way, that trashy, rust-covered area directly under that one-of-few of our remaining RA-5C Vigilantes was the outside wall of our shop! Remember? All our possessions within there were pretty much gone. The elevator just aft of there was welded UP since all controls had been destroyed by the fire. Remember? Brad |
