The Third day of the Expedition to launch the 1st Hot Air Balloon on the South Pole. |
On the third day to the South Pole the weather again is beautiful. Early on we see the Thiel Mountains to the west of us. We are steadily climbing in altitude. The mountain peaks stand 4,000 feet above sea level, but again only 600 are visible, the glacier is now around a mile thick below us. In this great adventure story, Curtis Lieber endures the extremes beyond that of the average man. This truly a great adventure to launch the 1st Hot Air Balloon on the South Pole, in which Curtis Lieber and his fellow expedition members face the reality of what can go wrong when you are on the end of the earth. Every time I read this, I realize what a real great adventure these men had when going to Antarctica. |
