When World War II broke out, the British War Office contracted with Bedford for a 3-ton, 4x4, general service truck. Between 1940 and 1945, approximately 52,250 of the resulting QL-series trucks were produced for use as troop carriers, fire tenders, communication vehicles, tankers, Bofors gun tractors and for several other applications.
 

Introduced in July, 1943, the World War 2 Lavochkin La-5 was inferior to the best German fighters at high altitudes but proved to be every bit their match closer to the ground. The La-5FN - the definitive version of the aircraft with a fuel-injected engine and fixed slats to improve all-round performance - could make a full circle turn in 18-19 seconds, making it a magnificent dogfighter.
