Larry Fisher. In 1973, the Amtrak version of Great Northern's famous Empire Builder was a mixture of Northern Pacific, Great Northern and Burlington Northern passenger cars. The "Builder" is a rainbow of color as she crosses Surprise Creek after emerging from the west portal of the Cascade Tunnel at Scenic, Washington.
