The Rainbow.
Larry Fisher. In 1973, the
Amtrak version of Great Northern's famous Empire Builder
was a mixture of Northern Pacific, Great Northern and
Burlington Northern passenger cars. The "Builder" is a
rainbow of color as she crosses Surprise Creek after
emerging from the west portal of the Cascade Tunnel at
Scenic, Washington. Limited edition print measures 17½"x

attention at the Las Vegas depot in 1955 as it rests during

Climbing the Wasatch.
Gil Bennett. Delivered between 1958
and 1961, Union Pacific's 8500 hp gas turbine locomotives
were the largest locomotives ever built. Relegated to
freight runs between Council Bluffs, Iowa and Ogden, Utah
due to their deafening jet engine exhaust noise, the
turbines eventually fell victim to the more efficient

The Centennial.
Larry Fisher. Union Pacific was renowned for its
massive locomotives. Leviathans like Challengers, Big Boys and the unique gas
turbine electrics all roamed the valleys and plains under the UP flag. The

leaning hard into a turn with a line of UP's armour yellow boxcars trailing
