A-7 on the USS Kitty Hawk

 
Click Here is a photo of Gordon in the training squadron VA-125 located in Hanger One at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore in Lemoore California.  Once a pilot leaves primary flight training he must be trained in the specific type of aircraft that he will be flying in the fleet.  VA-125, VA-122 and VA-127 were the training squadrons at Lemoore.  VA-125 and VA-122 flew A-7A's and VA-127 flew the A-4 Skyhawk.  When the pilot was fully trained in his aircraft, in this case an A-7, he would then be transferred to a fleet squadron.  Gordon was transferred to VA-215.  

Today, This exact airplane is located at the Prairie Aviation Museum in Bloomington Illinois.  I used to work on this plane when I was attached to Attack Squadron VA-125 in 1974 and I still work on this exact same plane today in 2007.  C. Jeff Dyrek.
