Douglas F3D-2 Skynight - Used exclusively by a U.S. Marine Corps squadron in Korea, primarily as a night fighter, taking advantage of its radar.  This fine VMF (N)-513 night fighter squadron was flying out of a west coast field called K-8, near the village of Kunsan.

The Skynight was powered by two 3400 lb thrust J34-WE-36 engines.  During my retraining phase at El Toro in 1951,  I had a fiw flights in this plane, since it was a two seat side-by-side aircraft, making it ideal as an instrument checkout plane. Each one of us retreaded Marine pilots was required to have his full instrument ticket before being put on an overseas draft for Korea.
