from Gary and Debbie

I was told by members of the 507th Fighter Group, that were also stationed at Ie Shima, that the marking were given to the Japanese by Macarthur as a means to identify these  particular aircraft. There is a article about the envoys arrival at Ie Shima with some very good photos in the National Geographic magazine from this period, Sorry I don't remember the month, but it was a 1945 issue. The 507th personnel managed to film the events, and I have seen some news reels from the time describing the event on IeShima. Very interesting history. I really enjoy the photos, the 507th members didn't take a lot of pictures, so its great to see the Island through the 34th.   Gary and Debbie
