the mid-1940s, the New York, New Haven & Hartford was committed to fast
electrified passenger trains. In the 1950s, the New Haven ordered ten General
Electric EP5s - double-ended, mercury-arc-rectifier passenger locomotives that,
nicknamed "Jets" due to their loud cooling air blower equipment, provided 4,000
