If you want model Japanese Navy Ships from the old navy or the new navy you're in the right place.  The Shokaku is a 29,800 ton Aircraft Carrier and was Launched on June 1, 1939 and was commissioned at the Yokosuka Dockyard in Japan on August 8, 1941.  This ship participated in the attack of Pear Harbor on December 7, 1941.  The Shokaku also fought in the Battle of Coral Sea in May 1942.  It was attacked by planes from the USS Yorktown, CV-5 and was seriously damaged then returned to Japan's shipyards for repair.  The Shokaku also fought in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons and then the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.  The Shokaku was finally sunk by the U. S. Submarine Cavalla, SS-244, on June 19, 1944 in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.   As Shokaku had been in the process of refueling aircraft and was in an extremely vulnerable position, the torpedoes started fires that proved impossible to control. At 14:08 an aerial bomb exploded, detonating aviation fuel. Shokaku sank quickly, killing 1,272 men.  The Shokaku's service dates were from 1941 - 1944.
