A Picture of a Magpie Bird Eating next to the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet of Alaska.

C. Jeff Dyrek, Webmaster at the Kenai Peninsula Alaska. Oct 2006
This Magpie bird is eating a hardy meal next to the Turnagain Arm in Alaska.  As you head down the road to Seward, the scenes are just majestic.  At this time in the fall, the picture opportunities are fantastic with the freshly fallen snow caps the mountains.

This Bird, a Magpie is having a great meal as seen in this picture.  Actually, there's a bunch of feathers on the ground and it looks like the meal is gone.  The picture was taken on the Seward Road just as you come out of Anchorage near the Potter Marsh.  I had to stop time and time again to take pictures.  A three and half hour trip to Seward turned out to take me about five hours.

As you drive out of Anchorage to Seward, you are traveling on the Seward Highway.  You travel east around the Turnagain Arm of the Cook Inlet until it ends, then you head south.  I did this just minutes before the sun came up.  The pictures were absolutely fantastic and can be seen in other parts of this exhibit.  The mountains were covered with a thin layer of snow that forms in the early fall.  This snow is called, "Termination Dust" marking the end of summer and the coming of the colder seasons.  It's very unfortunate for most tourist because this is the end of the tourist season and they are missing out on the best photo opportunities.

As the sun started to rise over the very eastern mountain at the end of the Turnagain Arm the white snow covered peaks turned a beautiful red, then gold and every variety of color in between.  Then the rays of the sun would peak through the mountain passes for a fantastic light show.

There are many picture taking opportunities of birds like the Magpie and others in this area.  Alaska made the roads right, the had many turnoffs where you can stop and see the view and take your pictures.
